Sarah-Jane Sewell for National Deputy Chairman (Membership) Conservative Future

 Manifesto of Sarah-Jane Sewell

National Deputy Chairman Membership Candidate 2011/2012

Dear members,

This month, Conservative Future elects its National Executive. May I take this opportunity to introduce myself, Sarah-Jane Sewell, and seek your support in electing me to be your National Deputy Chairman for Membership.

This last year has been incredibly successful for Conservative Future, with many new branches founded and old ones re-established, not forgetting the hard work and dedication of those already there. It is a remarkable platform for young Conservative politicians, whether they aspire to represent or just to help. Disraeli said, “everything that is great, has been done by the young”, so please help me to help us continue to build up the membership, respect and influence of Conservative Future.

HELP AND SUPPORT FOR NEW AND STRUGGLING BRANCHES. It is my wish to help those branches who are struggling and those who are just starting out. This means helping to bring in support for events, guidance on technicalities and encouraging non-active members. Together we can build up our strength. I believe we should promote good practice by providing guidance and support for all parts of CF, including how to attract guest speakers, sponsorship, discounts and being a good host.

THE DATABASE SHOULD WORK FOR US ALL. Branches, Areas, and Regions all feed membership data up through to National. We should make that information useful in reverse by helping access for branches to find out who and where their members are. There are people out there who still don’t know we’re here; whose only contact with the party is an annual letter asking for their subscription! We need to find those non-active members and give them the encouragement and the contacts they need to begin to make a difference.

elect more members TO STUDENTS UNIONS/NUS for better representation in Universities, Sixth Forms and Colleges. For way too long the NUS has been the preserve of the left and the far left; we have a duty to change that. The NUS claim to believe in Democracy. We must encourage our Conservative Future members run for SU/NUS positions (on non-party-political tickets if necessary) and support them where possible. This is the only way that we can empower our student members, and roll back the Labour/Lib Dem domination of the voice of the student population.

PROVIDE HELP, SUPPORT AND TRAINING FOR CONSERVATIVE FUTURE MEMBERS IN ELECTIONS AND CAMPAIGNING. Many members of Conservative Future were elected to Town, Parish and District councils in 2011. We must strive to help more members get elected in future elections. We must provide support and training for potential candidates; giving them the necessary guidance for effective campaigning, campaign literature and campaign delivery.

decentralise from London to provide fairer opportunities for all. More national events should be held throughout the country to allow members to attend for whom London isn’t readily accessible. Working closely with Regional and Area Chairman, we will help to find ideal locations for training, fun, social and social action projects to allow more members to be active nationally.

To make this all happen, we must act now. “The future depends on what we do in the present”. Vote me, Sarah-Jane Sewell as your National Conservative Future Deputy Chairman for Membership. I do not make any wild, impossible promises; but with your vote I will do my very best for you and all of Conservative Future.

Thank you for your time reading my manifesto and for allowing me to share my ideas.
