Sarah-Jane Sewell for National Deputy Chairman (Membership) Conservative Future

Sarah-Jane Sewell was born in Peterborough in August 1993. She attended Park Lane Primary School in Whittlesey where she consistently achieved high grades and always had a positive attitude to everything, including Netball and Rounder’s, in which she represented the school as team captain. Outside of school, Sarah-Jane was awarded numerous medals for Ballroom Dancing, attending regular lessons every Tuesday. Sarah-Jane also belonged to the local swimming team, training extremely hard each week to improve her fitness and stamina. As well as this she was a member of St Johns Ambulance where she was a Badger, the youth section of the organisation, where she achieved many certificates eventually gaining the “Super Badger”, the highest award, after four years of very hard work.

Leaving Park Lane Primary School, Sarah-Jane started Sir Harry Smith Community College in September 2004. Being awarded Gifted and Talented and starring in the schools musical production of “Little Shop of Horrors”, she enjoyed her time a great deal, whilst also representing the school externally in Netball and Rounder’s.

In November 2005, Sarah-Jane’s family chose to relocate to the small market town of Holbeach in South Lincolnshire. After sitting numerous entrance exams and interviews, Sarah-Jane was offered a place at Spalding High School, in South Lincolnshire, which is a Grammar School for girls. Being a very enthusiastic and committed young girl, Sarah-Jane always strived to help her peers and her school in anyway possible. She has continually been elected to the School Council, where in year 12, she was elected Sixth Form Representative, and subsequently Council Chairman. Sarah-Jane fought many issues close to the student bodies’ heart; she represented the student body to the School’s Senior Management Team and also to the Governors. In year 10, Sarah-Jane became involved with the schools fair-trade steering group, acting initially as a volunteer on the weekly stall selling fair-trade products from Tradecraft. Very quickly, Sarah-Jane became a prominent member of the team, and was quickly organising successful fundraising events. Success’s include the big Christmas card swap and many “Fair-trade Cafes” serving fair-trade tea and coffee along with home made cakes and biscuits, held in the school library attended by almost all of the 250 Sixth Formers not to mention a large proportion of staff as well. She attended all District AGM’s giving presentations and reports of the Schools progress.  Over the years Sarah-Jane also produced videos and gave assemblies to all students about the importance of the work of the Fair-trade Foundation, how one simple swap can make a MASSIVE difference, even if it’s just your tea bags, or chocolate bar. Sarah-Jane was awarded "The Miss Foster Award for Fundraising" in 2010 and a Community award in 2011 for her consistent efforts.

Year 11 was an impressive year for Sarah-Jane. She lead an executive of four people with an additional team of 5 more on the day to decorate, to organise the Spalding Schools Prom. The Spalding Schools prom is one of the biggest school proms in the country every year, being organised for almost 700 pupils from the four Secondary Schools in Spalding. It was a highly successful event, with many prizes donated from local businesses within the town to be awarded to ticket holders of a raffle held in aid of The Garth School, Spalding, a special School catering for children with ASD, PMLD and SLD.

Year 12 saw Sarah-Jane become Young Enterprise Company Secretary and Design Artist for "Treasured", a business specialising in Personalised decorative Wooden boxes all sustainably made, and personalised glass wear. Awards received: Boston and South Holland Best Trade Stand, Boston and South Holland Company Runner up, Lincolnshire County Runner up. The year also saw Sarah-Jane elected as a Prefect, just one of eighteen out of a possible 145 students.

Sarah-Jane currently has two part-time jobs to help fund her education and endeavours. She has held both these positions now for almost two years.
